Fabulous Fiction: Fantasy, Folktales, Realistic & Historical
September 8, 2014 – September 19, 2014
Instructions:
· Using your Treasures textbooks, find four stories that fall into the 4 categories listed above (fantasy, folktale, realistic, historical). You will need to use the TABLE OF CONTENTS. In your Reader’s Notebook, record each story title, page and genre. Read 1 of those stories on Monday the 8th, 1 on Tuesday the 9th, 1 on Wednesday the 10th and 1 on Thursday the 11th. While you read, be thinking and writing notes about the brochure criteria listed below.
· On Friday the 12th, fill in a Venn diagram on your fantasy/folktale stories.
· On Monday the 15th, fill in a Venn diagram on your realistic/historical fiction stories.
· On Tuesday the 16th, choose 1 of your 4 stories and make a tri-fold brochure.
· In order to make a score of 4, your brochure must meet the following standards:
1. Identify the unique features of these 3“Literary Fiction Genres: Fantasy, Folktales, Realistic & Historical Fiction.
2. oExplain the importance of characters in literary genres .
3. oProvide examples of the impact sensory language has in each of these genres.
4. oHelp the reader understand the importance of theme in these forms of literary text.
· I will provide you with a grading rubric for the brochure on Tuesday the 16th.
